Frustrated Small Business Owner Here – Now AI Discoverability??
I just read this article about how small businesses now need to focus on AI platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity to stay relevant, and honestly, I’m feeling some kind of way about it. Like, is SEO not hard enough already?? Now I gotta think about optimizing my stuff for AI too?? It’s starting to feel like there’s always one more thing to juggle when running a business these days.
It seems like the stuff they’re saying to do for AI visibility is similar to what we’re already doing for SEO. So, I guess that’s a little comforting? Like, if I’m already updating my Google Business profile and trying to keep my listings consistent, that’ll help for AI too. Same with getting reviews (which, btw, is another never-ending task 😑).
I had no idea about this “schema markup” though. It sounds techy, but they’re making it sound like you don’t have to be a genius to figure it out—or you can hire someone without breaking the bank. Anyone here actually added schema markup to their site? Did it make a difference? Trying to decide if I should add this to my to-do list or just survive on coffee and stress a little longer.
One thing that stood out is the idea of answering FAQs on your Google Business page or website. I might try that—makes sense for AI queries and also helps regular folks looking for info. Win-win, I guess.
Anyway, just curious how other small biz folks are handling this AI discovery thing. Are y’all updating your stuff for these new platforms, or just sticking with the SEO grind for now? Feels like we’re always playing catch-up with whatever Google or now AI throws at us, ugh.
Would love to hear what’s working (or not working) for you before I call this AI discoverability company.
